The youth at United in Faith, sixth graders through eighth graders, continue to prepare for their lives as Christians through Confirmation classes. Their Christian roots are enhanced to give our youth a rich education to prepare them to enter their teen years with basic Christian values in the Lutheran tradition. As we look at the youth of our church, we are looking into the future.
The curriculum is based on the "Echo - The Story (Youth) a Sketch Journal" series from Augsburg Fortress. The confirmation program is based on a three year curriculum allowing entire groups to participate in classes together. It also provides an opportunity for them to grow and investigate christian values both individually and as a group. The three year program culminates in a confirmation ceremony that celebrates their successful completion of the program.
Classes are usually held on the 2nd Sunday of the month from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. from October through May.
On Sunday, May 15, 2016 at the 8:30 service, Owen, Evan, & Zac were welcomed as confirmed members of the church through the Affirmation of their Baptisms. They made statements claiming the Christian faith as their own. They shared their own written Faith Statements describing their faith and belief. I’ve been through so many rounds of confirmation classes, and the spiritual wisdom that confirmands will share (when they slow down and get serious) never ceases to amaze me. See below for an excerpt from each Faith Statement:
Evan wrote: “I know that God is patient because we go off track and he reins us back in. Also he leads us through green pastures and that means through good times and through bad.”
Owen wrote: “What I think it means to be God’s Voice is to spread the word about God and His teachings. Especially his word of Grace and that God accepts everybody. Everybody is welcome.”
Zac wrote: “[Isaiah 40:31] tells me that God will be with me through thick and thin. He will also help me when I’m in dire need, because my Faith in Him is strong.”
