Worship Services at United In Faith

Every Sunday, Sep 6 - Dec 27 In Person Communion Service

On September 6, we will begin to have a shortened Sunday 11am in-person Communion Service (no online component). We will continue to offer Sunday 9:30am livestream worship (no in-person component).

Step 1: Call ahead to RSVP for worship (773-283-2326). This helps us to be prepared for the number of people we will have at service. We do not anticipate limiting attendance at this time. We ask you not to attend worship if you feel ill, have been exposed to COVID-19, have a compromised immune system, or are at high risk of exposing others. We will continue livestreaming on Facebook and YouTube at 9:30am if you still choose to participate in worship from home.

Step 2: All worshippers arriving for in-person worship must enter through the back (parking lot) entrance. Please maintain six foot distance from others as you wait outside the door. Two usher-greeters will meet you at the door. When you enter the building, you must wear a face covering (covers both nose and mouth – some disposable masks will be available if you don’t have one). You will be asked to sign in, and your temperature will be checked (with a no-touch thermometer). If your temperature registers above 100 degrees, you will be asked to leave (CDC guidelines). All attendees will be asked to use hand sanitizer upon arrival.

Step 3: maintain 6 feet (or more) distance from other worshippers, even when masked. Go directly to your seat in the sanctuary when you enter (a bulletin and a self-contained communion packet will be on your seat). Keep mask on at all times, except when taking communion. Maintain distancing, especially when entering and exiting sanctuary. (If needed for safe spacing during worship, we will open the sliding wall to the fellowship hall.)

Format: The service will follow a communion service format (without singing, no musician, limited group speaking), including a couple readings and a sermon. Communion will be shared with pre-packaged individual communion packets (first peel exposes wafer, second peel exposes grape juice), which will be left on seats with bulletins before service (please dispose of the trash in trash cans in the sanctuary before exiting). Other notes about the building: Bathrooms are only to be used in case of emergency. Kitchen, nursery, and most of the building will be closed off. This in person communion service will include no singing, no-contact offering, and no-touch sharing of the peace. There will be no coffee or snacks, and no opportunity to stay around after service. If you must stop and chat, please go outside to do so.

An important note: the plan outlined here assumes that we stay in Phase IV or later. If Chicago has to move backwards to Phase III, we will release new plans for our worship schedule (probably going back to only virtual livestream).
