We pride ourselves in having a well rounded
Christian education program for our children and youth. Each
curriculum is biblically based and supported by a staff of dedicated
and concerned parents. Our Christian education offerings include Youth Outings, Sunday School, Confirmation, a Teen Group and Vacation Bible School.
Check out the Intern's Corner written by our Pastoral Intern, Carrie Smith. Both Pastor Greg and Carrie lead the religious education of our children and youth. Youth OutingsSome of the youth activities require forms to be completed and signed. They include Confirmation Registration form, Emergency Medical Information, and Photo Permission Slip (for the web site). Youth Calendar - Activities Planned June 1: Bible Trivia Challenge! Pastor Greg will take on the confirmands, all alone, in a bible trivia quiz competition. The competition will follow the 10:30 a.m. worship service. Bring a dish to share for a Potluck Lunch. Watch for your chance to wager on who will win! (All proceeds, of course, go to the Youth Global Mission trip.) June 7: Saturday Car Wash - NOTE THE CHANGE OF DATE! An opportunity to support the youth trip with a car wash and a sponsorship program. Give your car a spring makeover for $5 in United in Faith's Parking Lot from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. July 17-20: Global Mission Event, LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Our summer trip this year will be to the ELCA's Global Mission Event, which highlights the lives of Lutherans all over the world! There is a specific Junior/Senior High program, as well as opportunities for adults and for children. We will stay in dorms on the campus of the university. Parents and families, if you are interested in attending with us, this is definitely a family-friendly, multi-generational event. More details will be coming soon, but the cost per person will be about $200 each, which covers lodging, meals, and the program. We are hopeful we can earn this much through fundraising this year! July, 2009: Jesus Justice Jazz: The next ELCA National Youth Gathering is in New Orleans in 2009! Though Pastoral Intern Carrie will not be here, we are already thinking ahead to ways this trip can be affordable for all the youth. Youth Activities Accomplished Youth Encounter Quake 2007 Our Youth have survived a Quake!! Jesus’ final command to his disciples was to “go and make disciples of all nations.” At United in Faith, we take the call to discipleship seriously. Discipleship simply mean following Jesus… but following Jesus isn’t always as simple as it sounds! At UiF, confirmation is not a class. Confirmation centers around DISCIPLESHIP. During Confirmation, middle-school aged youth get to learn about the many different ways we as disciples follow Jesus. They get to learn what our church believes (so they can decide what they believe!) They get to participate in and experience worship. They get to do service projects, experiencing places where the church meets the world. And they get to immerse themselves (and be mentored) in different aspects of the ministry at UiF. Confirmation is not a sacrament or rite of passage. Confirmation is training – walking with Jesus and with others – so that in the future, you can make your own choices about what it means to be a DISCIPLE – a follower of Christ. In order to facilitate these things, there are expectations for both the confirmands and their parents. By coming to Confirmation, you are making a commitment to learn more about being a DISCIPLE OF JESUS CHRIST.
Questions? E-mail Intern-Pastor Carrie. What’s Happening at Confirmation? We’re using a 3-year curriculum called Here We Stand. This year we are studying the Old Testament. Each Sunday night, we gather for a meal at 6:00 p.m., and then the fun begins at 6:30 p.m. We learn about God, the church, and each other through:
If you’re interested in learning more about God and the church, join us on Sunday night. Or, if you’re an adult, check out our “Explore Belonging” classes for adults! Teen GroupYouth who have already been confirmed meet on Sunday evenings at 6 pm. We have dinner at 6 pm with the confirmation students, and then we split into two groups at 6:30 pm. The older youth are currently reading “The Disciple’s Joy” by Michael Foss. There are plans to continue with Bible Study and other activities. Several times this year, this group will join the confirmation students for service projects. Our first service project is the Lion’s Food Drive, which takes place Nov. 4th and 11th. We’ll also be participating in the Night Ministry, and we will be collecting items to send for Global Health Ministries. On February 2nd at 6 pm, the confirmation students and older youth will be putting on a “Scripture by Heart” dinner theater! This event will be an elegant pasta dinner with stories from Scripture performed by the confirmation students. The older youth will be an integral part of providing service to our patrons. All proceeds will go to the Youth Ministry fund, which helps to pay for our summer trip. We are in the planning stage of our summer trip. Check back later for more details! The Youth Program at UiF is still growing! Do have ideas? Please join us to share your enthusiasm! Vacation Bible SchoolVacation Bible School is scheduled for July 28th to August 1st. May God bless you and your families! |
