Sunday Lectionary & Daily Bible Readings |
...from a Member“Welcome to United in Faith” is not just a phrase you hear, but a genuine expression of God’s love. Not long ago, my husband and I moved to Chicago. We had no family or friends in the area and knew finding a church home was a high priority in making Chicago our home. After just one visit, two things were clear. First, everyone was open, welcoming and friendly. No pressure, but genuinely interested in who we were. Even after becoming regular attendees and members, the same families come to us every week to check on our family and hear about our lives. Second, God’s work and word is clearly identifiable in the worship service and congregational activities. The sermons are just the right length to move your spirit and challenge you with something to ponder during the week. Meanwhile, the two Sunday morning worship services and community service opportunities provide means for worshiping and serving God as you are comfortable. Sunday morning at 8:30 is a liturgical service using classic hymns and a traditional service style. This is followed by a Sunday School hour, or a chance to have coffee and chat with those you haven’t seen since the previous Sunday. Then at 10:30 is a praise and worship service with contemporary Christian music led by a passionate praise band. United in Faith values being God’s hands, feet and voice in the world. Everyday, the church reflects this purpose through service to the community. The local food pantry, local girl and boy scout troops, vacation bible school, book clubs, and numerous other community organizations keep the building a busy place, and provide opportunity to use individual strengths and talents to reflect God’s love towards others. Even though this is an Evangelical Lutheran Church, the families who call United in Faith home come from very diverse backgrounds, including Catholic, Baptist, and Methodist ideologies. I hope, whether you are looking for a new place to worship, or just beginning to explore your faith, that you join us on Sunday morning for a real United in Faith welcome! ...from the Congregation
